The Shadow
Fortress, the Shakan Tzalmaveth, is Hotan’s old home. Jixil’s
tzalmaveths have appeared there, threatening the surrounding countryside.
Tzalmaveths are shadows of despair and darkness, creeping through forests and
draining travelers of power. They are easier for Jixil
to summon
than to recruit live critters, though she has always maintained a connection
with the Academy's mages. Tzalmaveths are something out of nightmares and dark
legends, none have been seen since Jixil vanished, although many villains have
tried. Usually they turn on their creator since it takes too strong a force of
will to control them. Jixil
made them as a byproduct from the negative energy from
Darkland’s creation. Now
they’ve grown beyond her control.
