Refusing the Call
Here, the maiden is faced with the unknown. The evil witch represses her, confining her to their solitary island and forbidding her any other human contact. The mother has grown overprotective, too fearful for her daughter’s safety to let her venture forth. At the same time, home represents safety and security, a place the daughter is loathe to leave.
